Concord Band The Chaw to Play SF Show Saturday

Merely describing this band's style as "western, psychedelic bluesy rock" does it no justice -- so we've embedded the sounds of Concord-based The Chaw, below, for your listening pleasure.

If you like what you hear, make sure to check them out at San Francisco's Bottom of the Hill, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m.

The Band

The Chaw was born out of the idea and desire between two friends to create psychedelic-western rock, said Jeff Tollefson, the band's bassist and lead singer.

After that "... we got a couple of buddies to join and in February of '11 we recorded the EP," said Tollefson, who also plays in another Concord-based rock band, .

That EP, which you can listen to above, is only a part of the band's repertoire.

"We have practically an LP's worth of music to record and will be making a lot more -- hopefully an album, sometime in the spring," said Tollefson.

The Chaw is comprised of Concord residents Tollefson, guitarist Jarrod Taylor and drummer Joe Roethlislberger, who attended high school at Berean Christian in Walnut Creek, and guitarist Stephen Schreffler, who met his band mates after moving to the East Bay from Michigan.

If you can't make it to Saturday's show in San Francisco or haven't rocked out to them before at Vinnie's Bar and Grill or another local venue, check them out Saturday, Jan. 21, at The Mutiny, M.F.B. in Antioch.
