Concord Police Sponsor 'Petty Theft' in the Plaza

Petty theft is expected in Todos Santos — and the Concord Police Association is sponsoring it.

We're not talking about an illegal activity here, of course, but the Tom Petty tribute band performing as part of the Music and Market Series on Aug. 15. The show is free to the public and goes from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

"The amusing connection between the name of the band and the Concord Police Association sponsorship has prompted chuckles from several regular attendees," states a city press release.

The CPA sponsorship dollars go towards funding next year's Music and Market Series in the plaza. 

"The series was threatened with cancellation when the state eliminated all Redevelopment Agencies, the funding source for downtown events, in 2011," explains a city press release. "Since that time, the community has pitched in through 'Pass the Jug' donations at each concert and through many business sponsorships to fund the popular summer events."

The Aug. 15 events includes the farmers' market from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. as well as SWAT and K-9 demonstrations by Concord police, tours of the Mumba SWAT vehicle, and information about the police department's community outreach efforts.

Before then, upcoming concerts in the plaza include Aug. 1 with Sol Horizon and Aug. 8 with The Fundamentals.

Todos Santos Plaza is located in downtown Concord at Willow Pass Road and Grant Street. Free parking is available in two municipal parking garages with entrances on Salvio Street.
