Volunteers, business and city leaders launched this week a non-profit set up to promote and support the performing arts in the City of Concord.
The Concord Associates for the Performing Arts were welcomed into the community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 18 at the Willows Theater — see photo above.
"The performing arts add so much to our community, both to the quality of life and to our economic vitality," said Mayor Ron Leone in a written statement on the city website.
CAPA, said Leone, aims to support programs like the downtown music series, the Willows Theatre and hopefully one day, music and dance in local public schools.
The organization will also give scholarships to local youth, said CAPA president Kelly McGinnis. Scholarships, she said, will be funded through donations from the business community and from fundraisers.
A fundraise auction is currently in the works for January 26 at the , so stay tuned.
CAPA board members include Kelly McGinnis, Tania Brugger, Dirk Wentling, Kenneth Dami, Tim McGallian, Scott Singley, Patti Barsotti, Paul Nelson, David Faustina, Tonya Amos, Cindy Goga and Scott Ellis.
