Whiz Kid: Megan Mayhew

Name: Megan Mayhew

Age: 17

School: Clayton Valley High School

Accomplishment: A smiling ray of sunshine, Megan Mayhew isn't one to run away from a challenge. As a co-captain of the cross country team and one of Clayton Valley's rally commissioners, she likes to keep busy. And, she's good at what she does: Qualifying for first team All-League after just one year of running.

Of course, taking on this much responsibility means making some sacrifices.  

"It's really tough because I want to give 100 percent of my energy to all my committments, but unfortunately I don't always have the time or energy", Megan said.

But she added that she always finds a way to make it all come together.

Future Plans: "I'm crossing my fingers for San Diego State!" smiles Megan, adding that she plans to become a cupcake shop owner.

"My favorite hobby is probably baking. Whenever I'm super stressed of upset, baking relaxes me. When I have free time I love to read new recipes and practice how to make certain decorations out of frosting."  

She hopes to chase her dreams all the way to Seal Beach, where she wants to open her shop.

Advice to Other Students: Megan advises kids to think outside the box. She says it's important to stay open-minded and have fun with what you do. But most important, stay positive! "Negativity will just drag you down...as long as you believe in yourself, you can be on top of the world!"
