Help Yourself and Others at Runs

There are many events to choose from in and around Clayton.

Race season is heating up with many runs and walks for charities scheduled in the coming months. Patch dug up information on 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons, fun runs and more in the Concord and Clayton area.

April

Event: Flippers to Feet 5K Fun Run

When: Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

What It Supports: Keeping the Pinole Swim Center open

After the fun run there will be a pancake breakfast to all for $5. T-shirts will be available to fun run participants on a first-come, first-serve basis the day of the event.

Cost: $25 for the fun run, $5 for the pancake breakfast

Event: March For Babies Walk

When: Saturday at 8 a.m.

Where: Bishop Ranch 2 and Iron Horse Trail

2600 Camino Ramon, San Ramon

What It Supports: Full-term pregnancies and solving problems that threaten babies’ health.

Participate in a three-mile walk for the Bay Area’s division of the March of Dimes.

May

Event: Diablo Marathon & 60K

When:  May 1 at 6 a.m.

Where: Mitchell Canyon Trailhead

Mount Diablo State Park

Receive a free T-shirt if you preregister by Thursday at 5 p.m. Awards will be given to the first male and female finisher in each age group. Custom coasters will be awarded to everyone who finishes. Check-in starts at 6 a.m. for 60K runners and 7:30 a.m. for marathon runners.

Cost: Marathon: $75; 60K: $115.  Add $15 if you plan to register at check-in, if not sold out.

Event: Devil Mountain

When: May 1 from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Where: 

What It Supports: Children's Hospital & Research Center

400 Hartz Ave., Danville

Competitive runners, walking enthusiasts, families and local businesses are invited to strut their stuff for a good cause. Choose from two flat and fast courses, a 5K and 10K on the Iron Horse Trail. One hundred percent of the entry fees will benefit Oakland-Northern California's only independent children's hospital. The event will include a fun run for kids with non-competitive 50- and 100-yard dashes for ages 3 to 8.

Cost: $32 in advance, $37 day of race and $13 for the kids fun run in advance and $15 day of race.

Event: The J.F. Kapnek Trust 8th Annual Fun Run

When: Sunday at 9 a.m.

Where: Miramonte High School

750 Moraga Way, Orinda

What It Supports: Pediatric AIDS fund

The registration for this event includes brunch, a T-shirt, entertainment and a fun run for children, adults, walkers and strollers.

Cost: $30 for adults, $15 for children under 18 and $10 for brunch only.

Event: Spring Tune Up and Music Festival: Rodeo 5K Run/Walk

When: May 7 at 9 a.m.

Where: Parker Avenue and Investment Street
260 Parker Ave. (Closest address), Rodeo

What It Supports: John Swett High School Music Program and recreation programs in Rodeo

Run a 5K with views of the San Pablo Bay, the old downtown and the Cottage District. Enjoy free musical entertainment during the run and after. The top 10 finishers will receive a prize. If you register in advance, you will receive a T-shirt as well.

Event: Kops for Kids Run/Walk/Wheelchair Event

When: May 21 at 6:45 a.m.

Where: 

1961 Diamond Blvd., Concord

What It Supports: Contra Costa Kops for Kids— athletic, social and educational programs for Contra Costa County children.

This event offers a 1 mile, 5K or 10K walk/run for ages 12 and younger, and adults, ages 13 and above. All three courses also open for wheelchair participants.

Cost: $20 to $25 per participant walking, running or in a wheelchair or $75 for a family of four and $90 for a family of five.

June

Event: Nitro Trail Half Marathon/10K/5K

When:  June 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Where: Point Pinole Regional Shoreline
5551 Giant Highway, Pinole

Choose from three race options: half marathon, 10K and 5K. The half marathon starts at 8:30 a.m., the 10K at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m. All participants receive a T-shirt. Women’s shirts available. Aid stations with sports drinks, water, gels, fruit and candy will be available for all distances. Race bibs and race bags will be available the morning of the race.

Cost: Half marathon: $55 until May 22, $60 after. 10K: $39 until May 22, $44 after. 5K: $34 until May 22, $39 after.

July

Event: Second Annual Stars & Stripes 5K Run & Walk

When:  July 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Where: , Concord

What It Supports: Hosted by the

Register by June 30, for this 5K run and walk event in order to participate. Register before June 19 and get a goody bag and shirt on race day as well as $5 off of your entry fee. The city’s fourth of July parade follows. A free kids fun run is included. Gift certificates will be given to child participants and top adult finishers.

Cost: $25 until June 19, $30 after.
