Is Classical Music in the Plaza Tasteful Or Tacky?

The speakers at the Todos Santos Plaza stage play classical tunes throughout the day. Do you like it — or loathe it?

Todos Santos Plaza on a sunny day is a symphony of sounds, from the noisy children playing in the park to diners chatting on restaurant patios around the square.

So, does Todos Santos really need background music too?

The speakers attached to the stage in the park often play classical music as an accompaniment to the scene. Some find it an enhancement of the relaxing environment, and others think it's nothing more than tacky elevator music.

Do you like the music in Todos Santos Plaza? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Here's a comment emailed in by a Patch reader, with an interesting idea: "I like it, but then I'm a classical music buff. My assumption was that if you put on hip-hop or rock, you'd have a stage full of kids showing off, and falling into the founntain.. But, I'd love to hear and see appropriate children's music, down by the children's play area, and see them dance around in the shade, when the slides, etc., are too hot to play on. A nice big piece of linoleum could be contributed, then kept rolled up when not in use...to save the grass. Parents should still stay nearby."

The classical music is lovely, and I have never heard anyone objecting. Originally, it might have been an idea for keeping a more boisterous after-school high school crowd from staying there and taking up all the tables and benches, etc, and playing boom boxes near the stage. Works well! Also, I do see some students sitting on the grass and studying by the classical music.

It completely tasteful. Any other music would be annoying or would draw the wrong crowd of riffraff to the area. Its worked for many years, so leave it alone. Its relaxing and makes me want to enjoy the square and its shops more.
