Fresh At The Farmers' Market: Plump Pluots

This week's featured fruit is the the pluot —a hybrid that is three-quarters plum and one-quarter apricot, according to the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association (PCFMA).

Pluots have a higher sugar content than that of a plum or apricot alone, giving them a sweet and rich flavor.

The season for pluots lasts from May to September, and they are grown mostly in milder climates, making them an ideal California crop.

PCFMA suggests that when selecting pluots, look for fruits that are plump and firm to the touch. Colors range from deep purple to bright green and yellow.

Pluots can be added to breakfasts and salads or savored whole and raw fresh from the farmers' market.

Find pluot recipes such as confetti pluot pasta salad on the PCFMA website.
