Concord Senior Center Underlines Education and Entertainment

Health and nutrition classes, and Picasso and begonia trips are coming up.

The Concord Senior Center at 2727 Parkside Circle has lined up a series of classes and educational trips for coming months.

A new offering is a “Fruit and Veggies” class, promoting the health benefits of eating fruit and vegetables. It’s from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and there’s no need to register.

A returning favorite is “Intro to Computer & Internet” scheduled for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays from July 11 to Sept. 26. The cost is $88.

Every once in a while we get people coming and asking about computer classes,” said Judy Madsen, interim program coordinator at the Concord Senior Center.

There are free classes in the SCAN health series — “Diabetes” from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 and “Eating on a Budget” from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The senior center schedules educational trips:

Picasso at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco, Wednesday, Sept. 7, $66;

San Francisco Movie Tour, Thursday, Aug. 18, $75;

Begonia Festival in Capitola, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, $39.

Concord seniors are also making plans for a week at Camp Concord in the Sierras, where Aug. 22-26 is the “50 & Better Camp.”
