Clayton And Concord Teenagers Named Eagle Scouts

Five Clayton residents and three from Concord officially became Eagle Scouts Wednesday night.

On Wednesday evening, Troop 492 celebrated eight Eagle Scouts from its own ranks, and paid tribute to their achievements in front of a crowd of family and friends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Alberta Way in Concord.

Over 200 people were in attendance in the chapel area to share the events of the evening. All eight Scouts — Austin Woods, Mitchell D'Angina, Bryan Crase, Cole Willardson, Johnny James, Garrett Blatter, Brayden Moore and Clark Blatter — received their Eagle medals, patches, and neckerchiefs during the ceremony from their parents. In turn, the Scouts awarded their parents with Mom and Dad Eagle pins and tie tacks.

After receiving the Eagle Challenge from Bishop Tony Damiano, Bishop Cliff Beck administered the Eagle Pledge to the eight recognized Eagle Scouts, along with the Eagle Charge, a listing of their responsibilities on their duty to community, to country, and to God as their lives unfold as Eagle Scouts. Next they were presented U. S. Capitol flags that were ordered through Senator Dianne Feinstein's Washington DC office -- these flags were actually flown over the U. S. Capitol, and an accompanying certificate shows the date the flags were flown.

Each Eagle Scout designated a mentor to speak in their behalf, then all eight Eagle Scouts were given speaking time to thank those who helped them complete their Eagle service projects, and to express their feelings about their accomplishments.  After the close of the Court of Honor, all guests were invited into the gym area for cake and refreshments, to take photographs, and to view displays showing each Eagle Scout's service project and Scouting history.
