A Long Ton for the Food Pantries

The Rotary Club of Concord-Diablo has surpassed one long ton (2,240 pounds) of fruit gathered this year and given to the many food pantries in the area as well as shared out with the Food Bank.

The Picker Squadron, as it is known, goes out to homes and will collect or even pick the oranges, grapefruits, lemons, etc., from your trees and bring them to the distribution outlets.

The first milestone was reached this year by Nancy Glenfield and Edi Birsan (pictured) working on a lemon tree in Concord.

Last year, the club took about 8,000 pounds to the community's poor.

To schedule the Picker Squadron at your house contact: Edi Birsan 925 798-3537 or EdiBirsan@astound.net.

The Concord-Diablo club meets at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near Buchanan Airport, 45 John Glenn Drive, in Concord on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m.
