Police Arrest Carjacking Suspect
Two Concord schools had been locked down during ground search Tuesday.
Police arrested a Concord man Tuesday night in connection with a carjacking and subsequent police pursuit that closed down two area schools.
Moner Amir, 31, was discovered at a residence on Balhan Court around 9 p.m. and taken to the Concord Police station, where he was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, stealing a vehicle, kidnapping, robbery, carjacking, evading police and outstanding felony warrant.
Amir drew the attention of the Contra Costa County Sheriff at 11:18 a.m. while at the wheel of a stolen vehicle. Police say during their pursuit, he crashed into another car on Concord Blvd. near West Street, made a failed attempt at a carjacking, then fled on foot.

As a precautionary measure, Concord High School and El Dorado Middle School were locked down while officers searched the grounds for the offender.
Meanwhile, the suspect carjacked an occupied vehicle and forced the driver to take him out of the area. The driver was later released unharmed.

Officers developed information about the driver that revealed his probable location and an outstanding felony arrest warrant.
