County Board Opens Door to Clayton Valley Charter Expansion
The school wants to negotiate with Cal State East Bay for more space.
The County Board of Education gave a controversial charter school permission Wednesday to meet growing demand for classroom seats by potentially leasing space from Cal State East Bay.
The decision comes over the protests of some Mt. Diablo Unified officials who claim that every student going to Clayton Valley Charter High School represents lost cash for the financially troubled school district. The total cost is $1.7 million, according to the Contra Costa Times.
Founded in 2012, the school now has a waiting list of 150 students.
