CBS Looks At Police Scandal's Roots

Long piece recounts flamboyant history of police corruption defendant Chris Butler's Concord private investigation agency.

The television fascination with Contra Costa County's big police corruption case continues.

CBS has a long piece sketching in the background of so-called "dirty DUI" setups by former Concord private investigator Chris Butler. Butler and former county drug task force commander Norman Wielsch are the primary defendants in a high-profile federal court case including dirty DUIs, operating a brothel and illicit drug confiscations, according to the charges.

One private investigator hired by Butler's agency describes the outfit as "always on the fringe."

CBS puts a spotlight on Diablo magazine's senior editor Pete Crooks, who has done some in-depth journalism on this case. But we're not sure Diablo brass would appreciate CBS's characterization of the magazine as "a local pop culture magazine."

I watched 48 hours and Dr. Phil and got alot of information but not one time were the victims that are sitting in prison or their families that suffer right along with them, mentioned. I also know that this started WAY before they are reporting. Is somebody going to talk to the victims or their families? My bf is in prison and between he and I, we have contacted everybody we can think of and NOT ONE person or agency has responded. Whats up with this?

The PI moms or whatever they called themselves are just as guilty as Butler and Wielsch, setting up and destroying people's lives for $100. I have they sleep well at night and no one ever does it to someone they love.

I agree with Masterlock. Every single of these ruthless, immoral wannabes P.Is "Moms" are just as guilty as the wannabe Badass Butler boy and his crooked psychopath cop-friends.They tricked and hurt many lives and families. They are hungry for publicity. They should all be charged. All of them. It's easy for the wannabes P.I moms to point finger at Butler now. But it was them that tricked the men into drinking and driving. It was them who put up the whole fake show to try to trick the world. Shame on every single one of them. The same bad thing will happen to you and yours. Don't forget "there is someone up above."
